Advanced cable fault detection system featuring Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) technology for precise fault location.
With the comprehensive rollout of urban power grid upgrades, many power supply bureaus, construction companies, and even design units are encountering XLPE cables with voltage levels of 110kV and above for the first time. Due to time constraints and lack of experience, many cables fail the withstand voltage test (10kV/1min) after installation. Currently, most outer sheaths use HDPE sheathing material, which has passed the DC 25kV/5min withstand voltage test in the factory, with leakage current as low as tens of μA. Therefore, most defects after installation are caused by external force damage during installation, including backfilling and cover plate application. Defects after operation typically include termite bites; water ingress into the grounding box; deterioration of existing defect points; and moisture penetration at grounding wire branching points leading to a decrease in insulation resistance. Sometimes, due to excessive cable burial or complex surrounding conditions, locating the defect is extremely difficult, and some defects remain unresolved for many years, leaving hidden dangers for operation.
